   Classic Golf Design out of the 1920's era
"Polack Joe" Soltis, a Joilet saloon keeper and beer baron from Chicago's southwest side, ventured north to Winter Wisconsin when he needed a change of pace.  When the heat was on in Chicago, "The Big-City Bad Boys" retreated to the solitude of the Northwoods for rest, relaxation, and a little recreational mischief.

Joe Soltis founded Barker Lake Golf Course first and foremost on his deep passion and reference for golf.  He faithfully placed and interweaved a strategic, Scottish style layout of rolling hills, natural elements of woods, water and sand, and elevated greens.  Hole number 4 is designated to be its most signature hole.  A 260-yard carry to the edge of a fairway pond and a second shot to an elevated green with water on the left.  Joe Soltis was such a perfectionist he had rich top soil shipped in train cars from Tennessee.

This Legendary Golf Course lays between the pines and hardwoods of the Majestic Chequamegon National Forest and views of the shimmering waters of Barker Lake.  Wildlife such as bald eagles, deer, fox and many song birds are commonly seen to enjoy and the calls of the lowly loon may be ever present for you to hear.  Throughout the golf season you will encounter picturesque sights.  The new fresh greens of spring - the warm pastel wild flowers of summer - and the brilliant fall colors of autumn leaves.  For some, this beauty still remains a treasure.

There was a time when style was important and the attention to detail and quality was a necessity.  The Barker Lake  club house has been refurbished to reflect such a style of tradition and provide an atmosphere of preferred professional service.  

Amenities Include:

  • A refreshment snack, juice and liquor bar complete with a variety of refreshing choices.
  • A selection of golf merchandise and memorable souvenir clothing.
  • Golf rentals such as pull carts, gas carts and club rentals.
  • Services and space available in hosting golf tournaments and corporate business outings.
  • A lounge area to relax after a great game.
  • Sun decks available overlooking both the Golf Course and Barker Lake to rejuvenate and indulge in those unmistakable lake breezes.  (Special Note:  This is the only clubhouse in the area that resides along a lakeside shore.)
